There are lots of reasons to want to scan a family history book. The scanning process can be tedious though and turning it into a PDF e-book takes work too. Let us do the work for you! You'll soon have a digital treasure to share with the world, or with just a few close family members.
PNGs are a lossless image format. Lossless means your pages won't end up pixelated. PNGs are compatible with all popular image viewing programs. At a scan resolution of 600 dpi, you can see ballpoint pen indentations and paper fibers. 1200 dpi is available if needed.
As PNG files, you get one image per page in your book. The benefits of individual files include the ability to share single pages, and to edit pages in Photoshop or other programs.
Having your scanned book in PDF form makes it more convenient to manage. You lose the ability to share single pages (you have to share the whole book), but you only need to save a single file on your computer.
If your book is a typed book, we can make the PDF searchable through a process known as OCR. an OCRed PDF E-Book, you could search the PDF for the word Christmas and find all the pages that have that word on them. OCR does not work with handwritten books.

My parent's VHS home videos sat unwatched on the video shelf for many years. After the tape player had broken, they just switched over to DVDs, and never looked back.
Last year I decided that I wanted to show my 3 year old what I looked like at his age. I digitized our old home videos, and he loved them!
I made copies of the movies for everyone who wanted one! My parents were happy of course, my siblings all got copies and my grandparents were happy to get to watch the old home movies again!
